Last Christmas, SNELL donated $2500 to both Coastguard and the Westpac Rescue Helicopter in lieu of giving gifts. Auckland Coastguard used the donation to purchase and install an 8" standalone instrument screen to display the ship’s radar.

“In Search and Rescue (particularly at night) we may have two different radars running that display different ranges - one showing objects close by and one showing objects further away, which can be a critical feature. ASB Rescue had only two screens previously, so when it was necessary to display both radar ranges the crew had no access to GPS, depth and other tactical information. The addition of the third screen has improved the boat’s operational efficiency, making her more effective at saving lives at sea.
